Last minute point denies Seniors perfect group record
The seniors were already qualified as winners of group A before before their last game on Saturday vs Ratoath but were looking for a perfect 6 from 6 in Navan on Saturday evening last. Despite leading for almost the entire match, a strong last 10 minutes from Ratoath meant the teams shared the spoils.

When Chris Reilly netted for the champions at the old swimming pool end of the ground in the 42nd minute, the Kiltale led by eight points, 3-14 to 0-15. They looked set to repeat last year’s SHC semi-final win over Ratoath.
Ratoath outscored them by 1-6 to 0-1 thereafter. Kiltale’s sole remaining score came courtesy of Jack Regan (free) with the hour almost up to restore his side’s lead.
Then came the match-leveller that tied the scores for the fourth time. Sean O’Hanrahan posted the equaliser at the town end.
A spirited Ratoath showing salvaged something from a fixture in which they never led.
Padraig O’Hanrahan made a significant contribution to Ratoath’s cause with 1-12, all from placed balls. Some of his frees were outstanding efforts. The highlight of his 15-point tally was a 56th minute brilliantly struck penalty goal – Padraig Byrne appeared to be the player fouled – that tied the scores for the third time, 1-20 to 3-14.
Kiltale already through the knockout stages as were Ratoath needed a win and other results to go their way to join the champions in the semi-finals. As it was they had at least a quarter-final fixture to prepare for.
In the first-half Kiltale were backed by a strong blustery wind. The scores were tied twice before the champions gradually moved clear.
That lead was further enhanced by Cathal McCabe’s 21st minute goal that left it 1-7 to 0-5. McCabe registered 1-4 from play in the opening period.
Padraig O’Hanrahan landed seven frees into the wind in the first 30 minutes, including one from just inside his own half. Another was converted from close to the left-hand sideline, about 60-metres.
Kiltale got a stroke of luck in the third minute of added time when a David Donoghue delivery, close to his own 45, wound up in the Ratoath net with their goalkeeper Collie O’Riordan, apparently obstructed by the sun.
Kiltale finished their stint with the wind leading by 2-11 to 0-11. However, the elements were squally at times. Before the game was out, the players were subjected to sun-showers.
The best conditions were experienced during an overcast third quarter which improved matters for players and spectators alike.
By the 39th minute the margin was down to five points, when Gavin McGowan sent over, 2-13 to 0-14. The sides shared points before Reilly goaled after James Kelly put him through.
Just when it looked as it the holders might ease clear, Ratoath responded positively and were rewarded with a draw.

Important match for Minors on Saturday
Our minor (u17) side have a big match away to Navan O’Mahonys/Wolfe Tones on Saturday in Navan (2pm). A victory could secure a place in the Div 2 county final, but this is somewhat dependent on results elsewhere. A good number of these lads will be moving up to adult ranks next year, so come out and support them and see what the future holds.
