Getting towards the business end…

The seniors are already qualified as winners of group A before their last game on Saturday vs Ratoath in Navan (6pm), while the Intermediates are holding on to their very slim hopes as they meet Rathmolyon in the preceding match at the same venue (4.30pm).

One win from the last two matches for the minors may be enough for them to reach the Div 2 final directly, but they need 3 points from the four available to be sure.

Our junior side has been eliminated from this year’s Junior 2 championship.

Here’s the state of play ahead of the final games:

Sophie’s Choice on the Big Screen

Minors pull off fantastic comeback in the rain

MHC Div 2 Championship
Kiltale 1-14 Rathmolyon 1-11

Our minors were in action on Wednesday evening in their second game of the Div 2 Championship at home to Rathmolyon in rain-sodden conditions in Kiltale.

After securing a point from the first match away to Dunderry it was important to get a victory as only the top two in the 6-team division qualify directly for the final.

Kiltale started slowly and Rathmolyon, aided by the wind and rain, raced to an 8-point half-time lead.

After some tough talking in the dressing room at half time the lads pulled out a fantastic second half performance, outscoring the visitors by 1-09 to 0-01 in the final 30 minutes – an eleven point turn-around and that with he wind having died down considerably in the second half.

Inspired by captain Gavan McVann driving the team forward the home side didn’t give Rathmolyon a second on the ball, winning the vast majority of possession which led to the scores and fouls in the teeming rain which led to frees expertly converted by the returning Eoghan Frayne and a well taken goal by Sean Hughes as well as points from Evan Clarke and Donal Matthews.

Scorers: Eoghan Frayne 0-09 (5 frees), Sean Hughes 1-01, Evan Clarke 0-03, Donal Matthews 0-01

Next up Na Fianna, Saturday 2pm in Kiltale.

Three games, three wins

Jack Regan impressed once more as the seniors were dominant from the start in their third round fixture against Dunboyne on Monday last in Navan, hitting a massive 0-16 points including 0-8 from play.

A special word for full championship debutant Jack Bannon who chipped in with an impressive 2-01. Final score: Kiltale 3-34 Dunboyne 1-11

The intermediates also had an excellent 6-16 to 0-09 win over local rivals Kilmessan on Thursday, while the juniors ran out one point winners over Wolfe Tones on Wednesday.

SHC Group A: Kiltale rout Dunboyne

A blistering first-half display set champions Kiltale en route to an emphatic win over Dunboyne in this third round SHC fixture at Pairc Tailteann on Monday evening.

Kiltale 3-34, Dunboyne 1-11

Playing into the town goal on an evening laced with heavy showers, David Troy’s men laid the foundations for their third win from three inside the opening eight minutes when registering 1-7 without reply.

Teams have let big leads slip on other occasions, but Kiltale were relentless here especially in the opening 30 minutes when chalking up 23 scores.

When the sheltering dressing rooms beckoned it was 2-21 to 0-4. Dunboyne’s weren’t helped by the dismissal on a straight red card of full-back Andy McWeeney in the 12th minute.

Jack Regan’s 16-point haul doesnt tell the full story of the county man’s input. His workrate also impacted positively on the outcome. His assist for Stephen Donoghue’s sixth minute point from distance stood out.

The first of Daragh Gilmartin’s brace of points put Dunboyne on the scoreboard. Coupled with a Sean McGrath effort they left eight between the sides with 10 minutes gone.

The champions upped a couple of gears to move 15 points clear by the 20th minute. Six minutes later Jack Bannon capitalised on a Dunboyne defensive mix-up to net and leave the nearby scoreboard reading 2-18 to 0-4.

At the break, 23 points was the chasm between the teams. Stephen Moran pulled a point back for Dunboyne within a minute of resumption.

It was not surprising that Kiltale’s scoring rate dipped after the break, but they managed to outscore their opponents in black-and-amber by 1-13 to 1-7 in the second period.

Bannon bagged his second goal in the 42nd minute following Cian Smyth’s save from Fearghal McCabe. That left 29 points between the teams, 3-27 to 0-7.

Dunboyne doubled their tally in the final quarter. Their 1-4 was matched by a further seven Kiltale points.

Conor Gilmartin was Dunboyne’s goalscorer and his side might have notched a second goal in stoppage time when Neil Hackett penalty was brilliantly saved by stand-in Kiltale ‘keeper David Donoghue.

At this point Kiltale and Meath goalkeeper Shane McGann had departed with a injury.

The outcome sees Kiltale maintain their six-in-a-row bid while Dunboyne have a battle at the other end of the table.

In the next round Dunboyne face Kildalkey, while Kiltale are up against Killyon.

Two in a row…

There was no need for VAR as Shane McGann pulled off a goal-line wondersave in round 2 of the Meath SHC. His heroics proved crucial as Kiltale emerged winners by just three points, 0-20 to 0-17, over a plucky Longwood side. Read the Hogan Stand’s match report here.

Seniors stay unbeaten after Longwood challenge

Although an early surge left Kiltale eight points up in the first half, Longwood fought back to within two at one stage before we ran out winning by three. Jack Regan was again the main scorer with 14 points, but Kiltale were thankful once more to Shane McGann who pulled off a wonder-save in the second half.

Meath SHC: Kiltale 0-20, Longwood 0-17

As in their opening win over Kildalkey the holders set the platform for victory in the opening half at the end of which they led 0-12 to 0-4.

Anthony Healy got the scoreboard working with the first point of the day. By the 10th minute the teams were tied at 0-3 apiece but from there on it was all Kiltale. Jack Regan sent over six points in those closing 20 minutes to add to his two early scores as the champions went to the dressing room with a healthy eight point advantage.

Longwood came out a different team in the second half and began to eat in to Kiltale’s lead. Damien Healy and Ryan Moore narrowed the gap with two early points.

Not for the first time Kiltale looked to Regan for scores and the county star duly obliged with 5 points between the 5th and 20th minute but within that time Longwood had narrowed the gap to four 0-17 to 0-13.

The Healy’s Damien and Anthony and Mickey Burke hit inspirational scores to get the ‘Wood’ within touching distance. A nervy final five minutes was in store for Kiltale and but for an outstanding save from keeper Shane McGann in the closing stages Longwood could have taken the lead.

A brace from Anthony Healy narrowed the gap to two but Regan steadied Kiltale with a long distance free to leave three in it at the end of this very entertaining second round game.

Kiltale scorers: Jack Regan 0-14, Cathal McCabe and Shane Lenehan 0-2 each, Padraig Kelly and Ross Ryan 0-1 each

Longwood scorers: Anthony Healy 0-10, Damien Healy 0-3, Ryan Moore 0-2, Mickey Burke and Karl Ennis 0-1 each.

GAA members invited to send submissions to Fixture Calendar Review Task Force

July 9, 2019

The newly appointed GAA Fixtures Calendar Review Task Force have commenced their work under the chair of Eddie O’Sullivan.

As part of this process, submissions from the membership of the Association are welcome to be made and can be sent to calendarreview@gaa.ie

In addition to this, members are encouraged to take part in a survey on the Fixtures Calendar which can be found here.

We would appreciate your assistance in making both of these options known to the membership.

Uachtarán CLG John Horan said: “The calendar review is one of the most important projects that the Association will undertake this year.

“A lot of progress has taken place around the calendar and we are committed to doing more.

“A high-quality team has been assembled to lead this work with many strands of the GAA reflected in its make-up.

“It is also important that our membership is given the opportunity to make their voice heard, and I would invite people to contribute by making submissions and also engage via the online survey.

“We know what the problems are. What we want to focus on are the solutions.”

The closing date for filing submissions is Friday, July 19.

The Fixtures Calendar Review Task Force are aiming for a November deadline to publish the results of their work.

Meath SHC: Kiltale open impressively in 6-in-a-row charge

Kiltale open impressively + up to date fixture details
Action from tonight’s SHC game between Kiltale and Kildalkey. PHOTO: JOHN QUIRKE

Kiltale delivered an emphatic message to the other challengers when they opened their bid fox six SHC titles in-a-row with a 1-22 to 0-15 victory against Kildalkey at Pairc Tailteann tonight.

The Kiltale players were razor sharp and Kildalkey were the opposite – blunt – in the opening half, but the defending champions had the benefit of a substantial wind behind them.

The wind was significant, but it wasn’t the only reason for Kiltale’s dominance as they produced some excellent hurling.

Five points from Cathal McCabe were augmented by five pointed frees from Jack Regan, two by Adam Murphy and Fearghal McCabe and one apiece from Conor Shirren, Chris Reilly, James Kelly and Ross Ryan that eased KIltale into a substantial 0-18 to 0-4 interval advantage.

Kildalkey didn’t score from play in the opening half and had to wait until the 12th minute before Niall McNally sent over the first of his four frees.

Kildalkey were better after the resumption and that was due to a combination of an improved performance, wind assistance and a dip in intensity from Kiltale.

Regan converted a 32nd minute penalty goal for Kiltale (see video clip) and also added three (one free) more points to his tally for a total of 1-8 while James Kelly also sent over near the end.

In between all that Kildalkey scored some good points with McNally adding another four, a tally matched by Patrick Conneely while Sean Heavey (two) and Evan Fitzgerald also contributed to the cause.

These teams are also scheduled to meet in the final of the A HL Div 1 in Athboy on Saturday 13th July.

Meath GAA social visit to Croke Park

June 19, 2019
Image result for croke park meath

Meath GAA Health & Wellbeing Committee are delighted to announce that again this year a social outing to Croke Park will be organised. The format of the trip will be similar to the very successful ones we have had in 2017 and 2018.

The date for this year’s trip is Thursday the 18 th July. We will travel by bus from various collection points throughout the county, arriving at Croke Park at 10.30am.

Tea/Coffee and scones will be served on the premium level, Hogan Stand on arrival. Then there will be a tour of the stadium with lunch again on the premium level in Hogan Stand at 1pm approx. After lunch a visit to the GAA Museum is a must. We assemble after our visit to the museum and leave by bus.

On the way home we will stop for some music, song and craic with refreshments and finger food at Ratoath GAA Club.

The cost per person is €30. Clubs secretaries are asked to circulate to all in their club especially their more mature members. This is a great opportunity for clubs to show their appreciation of the great voluntary effort of their elder members over the years in their clubs without perhaps much recognition. It is hoped that all clubs will ensure that it is cost negative to those travelling.

The trip will be filled on a first come basis. All payments must be made before the date of travel. No payments will be accepted on the day.

Please apply early, in order that the necessary arrangements can be made in good time.

Applications to Andy Fahy, Chair.
